Matthew Calcavecchia:
| More than anything else, theses paintings
are in response to the current political and social
battle over evolution and its compatibility with religious
beliefs. They are intended to help one consider the
relationship we have to our current political environment,
our sense of spirituality and its past, as well as out
relationship to nature and our closet genetic relatives.
The history of art is closely tied to the history of
our spirituality. In fact I imagine there is no better
tracking device for the journey our spirituality is
traveling than art.
Using gold leaf, watercolor, and other elements inspired
by pre-Renaissance Italian iconic art, I have combined
religious imaginary with more natural expression. It
is of the utmost importance that the compositions maintain
a raw energized quality, while at the same time displaying
more refined elements.

Avraham Zorea:
| Avraham is a self taught artist, unpublished
novelist, and sometimes actor.
In painting he tries to explore the terrain between
personal significance and universal experiences viewer
can immediately relate to. Through design and color
choices his pieces aim to communicate what it means
to be human by looking within. In the last year he has
made the decision to move to Washington State from Alaska
in order to participate in our dynamic arts community.
“I believe artists give you a mirror into the
most dear angles of our heart and soul; artists let
you be glad that you are alive because they notate and
memorialize the spaces there that are peculiarly one’s
own.”
